You’ll be outfitted with an inflatable kayak for a hands-on (i.e. wet!) class that includes basic instruction of skills and maneuvers along with considerable on-water practice time.
Quick Details
Our certified instructors have many years of experience teaching paddlers of all ages to successfully perform the roll. Each paddler receives valuable individual feedback and substantial one-on-one time with the instructors as they work to perfect your technique and master the kayak roll!
Learning to roll your kayak requires that you are comfortable enough with a paddle in your hands that you can focus on learning a new paddling skill while upside-down and underwater! This may sound intimidating, but our instructors have many years of experience teaching this skill and have taught hundreds of paddlers to roll successfully.
If you have a significant amount of paddling experience (lake, ocean, or river) and are familiar with a variety of paddle strokes (including lean turns and bracing), or have participated in a course where you learned and practiced these strokes — then you are ready for this kayak roll class! Not sure? Give us a call and we’ll help you decide if it’s time to take on this valuable skill.
If you have your own whitewater kayak and paddling equipment you are encouraged to bring it, and your instructor will assess whether or not it would be a good fit for you for use during the course. The style of your boat, the length, width, and how well it fits to your body all make a difference in how easy/difficult it will be for you to learn. If you do not yet have your own boat, your instructors can outfit you with a kayak, paddle, spray skirt, and paddle (advance notice for equipment rentals is required).
