INTRO TO PADDLESTROKES CLASS INFO
Outdoor Adventures Introduction to Paddle Strokes and Braces class is designed to develop solid, safe paddling skills. No previous paddling experience is required, though if you do have recreational paddling experience, but no formal instruction, we highly recommend taking this course. You will learn paddling techniques that are effective and safe, minimizing the possibility of paddle-related injuries. Introduction to Paddlestrokes is the perfect introductory class for those interested in sea kayaking, white water, inflatable or sit-on-top kayaking and is also great for stroke refinement!

Each class begins with a brief equipment overview; boat fitting, boat nomenclature, and paddle nomenclature so that you can select the equipment that is right for you. Your instructors will then cover appropriate stretching for kayaking, beach or dock launching, a wet exit (safely tipping and exiting your kayak), followed by a variety of essential strokes and braces.

Our instruction is based on the ACA’s (American Canoe Association’s) proven paddlestroke techniques. Topics covered include the paddler’s box, the J-Lean, forward stroke, reverse sweep strokes, low and high braces, and draw strokes. This course includes both classroom and on-water practice time. The classroom session includes instruction, video clips to model strokes and skills, and a time for questions and lasts approximately 90 minutes. The pool session (immediately following the class) includes 90 minutes of paddle time in a local pool.

Locations are The Outdoor Adventure Center on Willows Rd in Redmond, and Juanita High School Pool, unless otherwise noted.

NOTE: Minors must be accompanied by an adult.

ACA Equivalent: Level 1.

ROLL CLASS INFO
Whether you’re an aspiring whitewater or flat-water paddler, learning how to right yourself when you turn your boat over will give you the confidence you need to go to the next level! Our certified instructors have many years of experience teaching paddlers of all ages to successfully perform the Roll. Our two 90 minute pool session gives you ample time to learn and practice each step of this unique skill while allowing your muscles a chance to rest in between. Each paddler receives valuable individual feedback and substantial one-on-one time with the instructors as they work to perfect their technique and master the roll!

The course begins in the classroom with a video and discussion followed by a pool session where students will practice the roll concepts and receive individual assistance. On the second night of the course, during your follow-up pool session, you will continue to practice your new skills, leading up to a successful roll! This course includes both classroom and on-water practice time. The classroom session includes instruction, video clips to model strokes and skills, and a time for questions and lasts approximately 90 minutes. The pool session (immediately following the class) includes 90 minutes of skills practice in a local pool. Locations are The Outdoor Adventure Center on Willows Rd in Redmond, and Juanita High School Pool, unless otherwise posted.

NOTE: Minors must be accompanied by an adult.

Please note that this is a two session class and will meet on 2 consecutive Friday evenings, unless otherwise noted.

Additional Friday night Open Pool sessions are readily available for you to continue to practice your new skills!
